Read David Walsh's Secretary's report for 2008/9 Season:

Well season 08/09 has finished for the teams of Palmerstown Rangers. Last season was quite a season for us collecting no less than 6 awards from the DDSL presentations, and was going to be some achievement to try match, in what was an excellent year for the club.

Our under 7`s (born 2001) managed by Aidan Moore had their very first year in football. With this group of players having progressed from our well-run nursery they were taught and encouraged the basics of football while learning to enjoy it at the same time. They had ups, downs, highs and lows and never once stopped trying, and are already awaiting their under 8 season next year.

We have no under 8 (born 2000) but we have received some names and many queries and are looking good to field a team at this age for the new season in September. If you are interested or know somebody
who is, please do drop me a line and pass on your details to the number at the bottom.

While having no team at the above level, we cater for two teams at under 9 (born 1999). John Kennedy and Fran Coakley run the Saturday under 9 side and had been promoted from the pre Christmas league. They had a splendid finish to the season, finishing runner-up in their league and will progress higher for next season. Great credit must go out to the managers and the players.

Our Sunday under 9 team managed by Brendan Clancy and Jimmy Dunphy also moved up the leagues, following an impressive pre-Christmas run. They ended up a very respectable mid table in a high league. We as a club cater for children who want to play all sports and therefore with teams playing on a Saturday and Sunday can accommodate all.

Our under 10 team (born 1998) played their last year of small sided football. Next season they move into the world of full size pitches, official referees and 11 a side football. Under the guidance and managed by Bernard Deegan and Lar the team stayed very strong and never came out of the top five all year, and they finished in a excellent third place, just missing out on second place.

In their first year at 11 a side football, (born 1997) our under 11`s managed by Gerry Lynch and Joe Gibney played a storming campaign throughout. The team that never dropped out of the top five all season pushed and pressed the best in their league, finishing a very good fifth place. They have learned a few tricks and are the wiser for the new season coming.

Andy Doyle and Paul Ellis manage our under 12`s (born 1996). The lads were unlucky to get relegated this season in what was a strong league. They were unlucky in a lot of there games, only going down by the odd goal here and there, and found form just a tad to late in the season. However we all at Palmerstown Rangers know that the lads will bounce back stronger for next season.

Born 1995 Palmerstown Rangers have two teams at under 13 level, playing out of the A.1 and B.1 leagues.  The A.1 team managed by John Corrigan and Paul Boore had moved up a league from last season. In a case of lack of numbers and injuries the lads were unlucky to get relegated. The boys commitment levels were never in doubt, and like our under 12`s, we know that they too will bounce back.

The under 13 B.1 team managed by Joe Hedderman and Colm Birkett ended up a very respectable third place. They too got promoted last season and were unlucky not to get promoted this season, after an excellent run of form.

Rangers have two teams at under 14`s (born 1994) our teams play in leagues A and B. The A team managed by Vivian Jackson and Ray Robinson are in a tough league and a final match-day win enabled the lads avoid the drop. With an unfortunate run of injuries the lads have struggled with numbers, but never once looked out of place in this league and fully merited their place in the A league.

David Walsh and Paul Mann manage our b team. Having won league and cup double in their first year they travelled at Easter to Stoke to play a tournament. They collected the plate runners-up and player of the tournament awards. They moved up two leagues and could finish in third place in a tough league. The lads are going from strength to strength and are looking forward to the new season already.

We have two under 16 teams playing on a Sunday. The A league team is guided by Noel Dempsey. The lads played super football at times, and in what is tough league to get out of, they very much held their own. They will progress to under 17`s next year having finished mid table this year.

Peter Connolly and Dermot manage our B team at under 16. Finding form in the middle of the season they were so unlucky to just miss out on a second place, but still held onto a superb third spot in the league.
Like in all places people come and go. But it was with great regret when we heard that Peter and Dermot were hanging up their managerial boots. The lads have not only put many, many years into managing the team, but also gave up many hours at committee levels through the years also. So I would like to forward my best wishes to the lads and thank them. People like Peter and Dermot are hard to come by. We at Palmerstown Rangers are always looking for adults to give up some time and help your local club. Also we are always here to welcome new players of all ages to our club.

I would like to acknowledge the Palmerstown Rangers Senior team who enjoyed Cup success following a penalty shoot-out and at the time of writing are looking good for a league win to complete the double. It is very important that our club offers an option for schoolboys to progress to adult football and I am pleased to report that the Palmerstown Rangers senior team contains a fair proportion of lads who have progressed from the Under 18 ranks.

I would like to commend and thank our grounds man Dave Ward on the constant up-keep of our pitches, and for having them in perfect order all year round.

As most pack bags to go on holidays we would always like to keep you informed of any happenings going on in Palmerstown Rangers and therefore notices of events will be posted throughout the summer – Trials tournaments etc on this site – www.prfc.ie

Our club phone for any queries can be contacted on 086 – 0575138.

Happy hols everyone and see you in July for the trials.

Yours in Football,

David Walsh

Schoolboys Secretary
