Update to our Managers and Parents on the proposed Merger of schoolboy clubs Palmerstown Rangers (PRFC) and Palmerstown United (PUFC)

Background

Over the past number of months the committees of PRFC and PUFC have met on a number of occasions to discuss the possibility of merging the two schoolboy clubs into a single club in the Palmerstown area.  A number of issues have been progressed to the extent that the clubs are satisfied that we can commence the 2012/2013 football season as a single club, to be named Palmerstown FC.  All existing teams from PRFC and PUFC will play on an “as is” basis next season but under the name of Palmerstown FC.  There will be one single Nursery and the Under 8’s for the new season will be a fully integrated team.  The existing Senior Teams will also merge under Palmerstown FC.

Why Merge

Palmerstown is a relatively small area/community and in recent times we have struggled to field teams across all schoolboy age groups from Under 8 to Under 19.  Both clubs are essentially competing for the same pool of talent and in the process losing players to other clubs in neighbouring areas.  The merger will present us with an opportunity to field at least 2 teams in every age group and afford our children the opportunity to play football at an appropriate competitive level to suit their ability.  A single schoolboy club in the Palmerstown area is an essential step for the long term future of schoolboy football in the area.

There will be information briefings at our Managers Meetings and AGM.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact your committee.
