PRFC Under 12's 5-0 Wayside Celtic Rangers produced their best performance of the season and maintained their excellent form for 2010 with a comprehensive win over Wayside. Rangers were sluggish early which was no surprise following 4 weeks without a game.
The breakthrough came on 20 minutes when Ross went on a solo run down the left wing, cut in and hit a superb finish inside the keepers near post. Rangers settled now and with a solid back four with Derek and Gabriel in good form in the full back positions the Rangers midfield got on top and created more chances. Five minutes before the break Gabriel intercepted the ball and played it through to Ross, he sidestepped the defender and hit a neat right footed shot to the net which gave the keeper no chance. Rangers kept up the pressure in the second half with subs Sean and Nathan prominent in attack. Amy was unlucky with a couple of efforts from the right wing which just missed the far post and it was that man Ross who clinched the game with a fine shot from the edge of the box to the top corner for his hat-trick. Rangers cut loose and Chulainn hit a superb chip shot from the left into the top corner and Derek and Amy combined down the rignt and Chulainn produced a right footed finish from close range for his second. An excellent day for the home team with strong performances all round, but Ross takes MOTM for his superb hat-trick.
Templeogue Utd 3-1 PRFC 13's Rangers can be positive about an excellent display where they were unlucky to be on the end of the 3-1 defeat to the hosts and had the stand-out peformances from Glenn Doyle, Shane Ellis, Eoin Walsh and Rob Eccles. Rangers took the lead from Glenn but templeogue bounced back with 3 goals in the second half. Rangers had the pressure and chances to force a draw but did not get the bounce of the ball and the bit of luck needed to get a result.
PRFC Under 8's 3-1 St John Bosco Team - James Dempsey, Conor Larkin, Aaron Dempsey, Adam Brady, Mark Dietz, Evan Lynch and Keith Quinn Subs - Aaron Dunne, Adam Stuart and Jack Halpin Goalscorers - Mark Dietz (2) & Evan Lynch Man of the Match - Aaron Dunne
A good win by Rangers against a spirited Bosco side. Rangers took the lead early in the first half through a goal from Mark and could have gone two ahead but a good left foot strike by Keith which was well saved by the Bosco keeper. Bosco regained control and but for a combination of some poor finishing, some good defending by Conor and Aaron Dempsey and a fine save by James, could have been ahead at the break. Rangers upped their game in the second half. The two Adams and Jack gained control of midfield and Rangers doubled their lead with a goal from top scorer Evan. At the back man of the match Aaron Dunne ensured that no further chances fell to Bosco. Rangers wrapped up the game with a terrific strike from Mark midway through the second half and although Bosco responsed with an equally good strike late in the game the points were already in the bag for Rangers.
PRFC 15's 8-2 Carriglea Boys On Saturday Chelsea answered questions around their ability to win the league with an emphatic win and Rangers followed suit with a statement of intent on their aspirations for the seasnon. Rangers broke through after only two minutes through Kavanagh who finished off a one on one chance with the keeper. On Five minutes man of the match, Aspil, placed a shot low and hard to the keepers corner and doubled his tally with a good run at the visitors defence followed by a cool lob over the on-rushing keeper. Carriglea would not lie down and pulled a goal back but on the stroke of half time Rangers responded and Corcoran's cross bounced at the feet of McGrane who half-volleyed from 25 yards out near the touchline for a sublime finish to the top corner. Manager Dave cleared his bench at half time and Kavanagh was again too quick on 48 mins when he buried his second of the game. Aspil completed his hat-trick and got rangers 6th on the hour mark when he converted a diving header at the back post from Maguire's cross. It was the perfect hat-trick combination of right, left and headed finish. This inspired Kavanagh who got his own hat-trick on 69 mins when he rounded the keeper to score. When Kavanagn was taken down a minute later, up stepped Mal Taylor who buried the pen for his first ever Parmo goal in three years. 8-2 the final score as rangers march on and head for their Easter trip to Stoke City in good form
Wayside Celtic 1-2 PRFC 17's The 17s collected a valuable 3 points away from home by beating Wayside Celtic 2 1. Played on a tight pitch, Wayside rarely threatened but despite plenty of good approach play Rangers failed to score in the 1st half. Rangers were much better in the 2nd half and opened the scoring with a superb finish when Al Caul scored from a tight angle after a good ball from Eoin Carey. Rangers increased their lead when Jamie Wade put Sean Nolan through and he rounded the keeper before calmly slotting the ball home. Rangers were comfortable at this stage but this changed when Wayside scored from distance with 10 minutes to go. This led to a few scares towards the end and a fantastic block by Shane O'Reilly was needed to keep Rangers ahead. This capped a fine performance by man of the match Shane O'Reilly and keeps Rangers in the hunt for the league.
