Palmerstown Rangers Schoolboys, End of Season Report 2012

Small Sided Games Report

Well done to all players and managers on the Small sided scene. We managed to field 1 x Under 8, 2 x Under 9, 2 x Under 10 and 1 x Under 11 teams for the new season.

The Under 8C Saturday team were managed by Sean Byrne and the lads had a good start to their football careers.  With a large squad we are hopeful of starting an additional team for 2012/13 season.

The under 9D team managed by Pat O Flaherty had a solid season with a 3rd place finish. The boys will look to kick on next season.

The Under 9C managed by Florin had a strong season in a very competitive league and were just squeezed out to 3rd Place. With some strong talent and great improvement next season promises to be a great one for the lads.

Our First DDSL honours go to the Under 10 D1 on a strong season where they finished runners up to Dundrum. Indeed the league came down to the wire and in a winner takes all final game, Dundrum held on for a draw to deny the lads the title. Managers Keith and Carl would like to thank all the parents and particularly Helen and Rhona for all the assistance with equipment and jerseys and Cathy who looked after the finances. The boys are looking forward to 9-a-side next season.

Aidan and Aaron’s under 11’s called time on their managerial stint after 4 great seasons with the lads. In another competitive campaign the lads finished 3rd in a very strong 11B1 league. No doubt the lads will be back in the managerial seat in the near future, and best wishes to that seasoned campaigner Paul Ellis who takes the reins for the lads first season at 11-a-side.

11-A-Side Report

Manager Lar got the Under 12’s up and running on Sunday in the SDSL to avoid a clash with GAA. The toll of two games at the weekend did impact on the lads who lost a lot of games in the last 10 minutes. The lads had a reasonable season in spite of the fact that they missed most of September due to a late start and were always playing catch up. With a full season behind them they should be one to watch next year.

The Under 13’s managed by Fran and John had a season of consolidation as they had been promoted after a league win last year. The boys will surely kick on next season and challenge for honours.

The Under 14’s benefited from Perry’s involvement as coach and with Lar at the helm the lads had a really strong season with just one defeat to league winners Willows. Indeed Willows effectively won the league from Rangers with the last kick of the ball to thwart our lads. However a great runners up medal to treasure and this is a team to watch if they can just add to the squad.

The Under 15’s managed by Joey and myself had an enjoyable season in the B1 League. With 14 teams and some heavyweight performers it was a marathon and 2 defeats says it all for Rangers performances. Highlights were the 6-1 spanking handed out to eventual winners and a memorable 5-2 win at Ballybrack when the lads came from 2 goals down to secure the runners up spot from Peamount and Rangers. Alas too many draws in the mid part of the season but a great season for all the lads who stepped up to a different level to get the job done.

The 16’s had a good start under gaffer Paul Ellis but heads dropped when results went against them and the lads had to be content with a mid-table finish. With Paul moving back to the Under 12’s a new coach is required to manage this great bunch of lads for next season.

The Under 17’s managed by Paul Bore had a superb start to the season and looked good for a league and cup win. However they lost key players on the home run and had to settle for a top 4 finish. Paul is not available next season on Sundays and is seeking a manager to look after the lads on match days. He will continue to coach the lads.

Stephen who managed our 18’s had a storming finish to the league and finished runners up after a late start. Stephen was full of praise for the effort the lads put in and they only just missed out on the league Cup final losing 3-2 on penalties. Special thanks to Abu Kamara who coached the lads and will stay involved if the lads are willing to to U19 next season. Stephen steps down for domestic reasons and we wish him all the best and hope to see him back in football again.
